Teachers that are involved in this project
Saraswati Niketan School is an old school we've been working with for a long time. The school is very active and likes to participate in different events and contests in Kathmandu Valley. It doesn't matter if it's about robots or sports, they are always keen to join. Rabina Maharjan's team is super passionate about getting students involved in various activities. The school already has a club that focuses on robots and cool science stuff (STEAM club), but the teachers want to add some new ideas to make it even better. So, Saraswati Niketan is planning to make a special place that's all about robots but mixed with Novel engineering theme.

Teachers at Saraswati Niketan wanted to create a space for making things, focusing on robotics. They've had training sessions with Karkhana Samuha through the PEBL program in past years. During these sessions, teachers learned about Novel Engineering, and that got them interested. Now, they want to try out a Novel Engineering theme for their making space.
The school decided on this theme because they share the space with the school's library, which already has books for the curriculum. Rabina mamas' teams are ready to invest and buy storybooks to support the Novel Engineering theme in the Making Space. This collaboration will help students learn about robotics and engineering in a creative way, using both hands-on activities and interesting stories.

During our initial visit to Saraswati Niketan, our focus was on assessing the available space. However, the school faces a problem of insufficient rooms, particularly the lack of a dedicated space for Making Space. Since 2020, the school has had a STEAM club, which has garnered significant interest from the students. Even during the Covid pandemic, their teacher, Rabina Ma'am, ensured their continued learning through online sessions with teachers from around the world.
Initially, the school had a plan for a special room solely Making Space. However, the teachers came up with a better idea: incorporating Novel engineering alongside robotics. They discovered a nearby library and realized it would be ideal to merge the two concepts. Books can play a crucial role in enhancing children's understanding of Novel engineering, so they wanted to combine the two spaces.
Although the library had limited room for modifications, we found a way to make it work. We made adjustments to maintain the library as a quiet area while creating a cool space for hands-on activities.
